History:
Kà is a story about 'conflict and love', of 'imperial twins who are separated at the prime of their youth and must undergo a rite of passage of self-discovery. It is about their encounters with Kà, the fire that has the dual power to destroy or illuminate.

The story takes place in an ancient Eastern kingdom of an achronological nature. While wars are fought using spears and bows, technological marvels such as flying machines and arc welders seem to exist.

It begins on a ship, being rowed to the shores of the Eastern kingdom. On it, the imperial twins practice their sparring to pass the time. When they arrive, they don ceremonial robes given to them by their Nursemaid, rush to meet their father and mother--the Emperor and the Empress--and settle back to enjoy a grandiose pageant. Displays of sword and spear-fighting and acrobatic feats to the tune of lively music sweep the palace, and the Brother and Sister dance along and tease one another. After the skilled warriors complete their routines, they clear the courtyard, and the Brother and Sister play their flutes together, while the Valets perform tricks with stacks of books.

Unbeknownst to the royal subjects, the pageant has been surrounded. The traitorous Counselor, with the help of the Chief Archer, plots to ambush the royal family. As the Brother and Sister finish their song and take to their parents' arms, the first shot is fired, felling the Empress with a single arrow. Shortly after, the Emperor meets a similar fate. A hail of arrows barrages the mortified crowd as the Brother and Sister cling to their mother's and father's bodies. They are quickly torn away by the Nursemaid and the Jester to a small boat to escape in safety, but during the ruckus, the Brother is wounded and thrown overboard. The Sister cries out and tries to follow, but she is held back by her Nursemaid, sending the Jester to rescue him instead.

The ship sets sail with a handful of subjects into a terrible storm. The sail is quickly lost, along with several of the crew. The Sister and the Nursemaid, along with two Valets, cling to the mast as the boat heaves, and eventually begins to sink. The Sister climbs to the very top of the mast as it sinks beneath the waves, but it is in vain. When she lands in the water, she finds her Nursemaid sinking fast, so she dives to bring her back to the surface.

Meanwhile, the Chief Archer and the Counselor connive together about how to deal with the escaped Brother and Sister. The Counselor's Son, eager to impress and court the Chief Archer's Daughter, presents her with the Sister's beautiful flute. He then shows the Chief Archer his plans for a machine capable of grinding a particular ore into a powerful explosive that they could use to take over the kingdom.

The Brother and the Jester find a cave in which to hide. The Brother is angry and frightened about the Counselor's betrayal and what could be happening to his sister. The Jester attempts to alleviate this with some shadow puppets, which he eventually gets the Brother into. However, it is not long before the Chief Archer's men discover their hiding place and capture them.

The Sister, the Nursemaid, and two Valets are washed up on the shores of a vast, sandy beach, where they meet giant sea creatures. Frightened at first, they quickly befriend the creatures, and the Sister and the Nursemaid lose the Valets while following a crab. They reunite at the base of a rocky cliff face. A friendly Mountain Tribesman appears from the top, beckoning them to come up and join him. Determined to climb, the Sister and the Valets help the Nursemaid halfway up the wall before an arrow nearly hits one of the Valets. The Chief Archer's men have followed and found them, and quickly take to the wall in pursuit. A scuffle ensues, and the Archers capture the Valets while the Sister and Nursemaid escape to the Mountain Tribesmen's campsite.

The Archers will not be avoided for long. The Mountain Tribesmen reveal their tent to be a flying contraption on which they can carry them to safety. The Nursemaid insists she is too old to accompany the Sister on such a machine and sends her along alone. The flight goes unhindered for a time, but the Mountain Tribesmen accidentally lose grip of the Sister and drop her above a dense forest teeming with giant insects. She falls through the trees to certain death, but she is rescued by the Firefly Boy, who literally and figuratively sweeps her off her feet. They dance and play in the tall trees, flying and swinging from vines. The Sister asks for his assistance in finding her brother, which he provides.

The Brother has been imprisoned all this time, and the Chief Archer's Daughter has grown very fond of him, and he of her. She sneaks to his cage one night to offer him a drink and give him his sister's flute. When she leans in, he steals a kiss. After a furtive look around, she opens his cage. He springs free in delight, then turns back to her and after much hesitation, insists she keeps both flutes. As he releases the Jester from another cage, he offers her his hand, inviting her to escape with them, but she refuses. She contents herself with swaying lovestruck, twirling the flutes like batons and dancing. The Counselor's Son watches the entire scene from afar, irate and jealous of the affection the Brother receives.

With their machine built, the Counselor betrays the Chief Archer, chaining him up and convincing his Archers to follow him instead. The freed Brother and Jester burst in on the scene, fighting the Archers while the Chief Archer's Daughter rushes to unchain her father. The Sister and the Firefly Boy arrive soon after to assist. Upon laying eyes on one another, the Brother and Sister embrace in disbelief and joy. Their reunion delight is short-lived, however, as they quickly need to take down the Counselor and his Son before they take over the kingdom.

Together with the Firefly Boy and his people, the Brother and Sister face off against the Counselor's Archers. A long and arduous battle commences, culminating in the Counselor's Son pulling out the volitile explosives he has created. Unfortunately, they detonate before leaving his hand, blinding and grievously wounding him and several Archers, ending the battle. The Counselor rushes from the back lines to cling to his dying son and repents for all he has done.

They accept his apology, and it is from here I pluck the Sister from her canon.

Personality:
Naname is not exactly the poster child of an imperial daughter. She has a hard time sitting still most of the time; loves to be moving, whether it be fighting or dancing. You can only expect her to be sitting still when she is asleep. If you cut off her hands, it would probably be considered a speech impediment. They are always rocketing around, pointing, waving, balling into fists, clapping over her mouth: she is extremely expressive through her body language (probably due to the interpretive nature of her canon). She doesn't have to say a word to hit you in the face with whatever she is feeling. Along with this restlessness comes a hands-on approach to everything and a desire to join in whatever is happening. When she is audience to the pageant's acrobats, it is clear she wishes to be a part, bobbing and clapping to the music, even jumping up to dance along.

Physically, it could be said that she is a bit of a daredevil. She does not hesitate when it comes to getting to great heights. Taking flight in a rickety flying machine, climbing perilously tall cliff faces, and swinging through gigantic trees with the fireflies; she seems fearless to a fault when it comes to putting space between her feet and solid ground.

She is incredibly attached to her twin brother, but unlike him, she does not seem to mope when the two are separated. She is able to make the best of the situation without him, exploring and laughing unabated. You would almost think she'd forgotten him, but her drive to push forward when the laughing is over makes it clear that she desperately wishes to see him again. Speaking of exploring, Naname is quite curious. Perhaps it is because of her royal secludedness, but everything seems to bring her wonder. Hand in hand with this curiosity is a sort of royal, trusting naivety. Despite her mother and father being taken from her, she still holds onto an innocent-until-proven-guilty mindset. While her friends are terrified of a giant, possibly dangerous crab, she dances around it with eyes like saucers, even getting it to do a few tricks. Likewise, while being pursued by Archers, she throws herself blindly into the clutches of the Mountain Tribesmen, not even knowing if their intentions were good ones. Everyone is a friend until they opt out.

Even if they opt out, Naname will always accept them back if they wish to make amends. A grudge is about as familiar to her as a cave on Mars. She is a firm believer in second chances, willing to forgive even the men who plotted the assassination of her parents. This could probably also be pinned on naivety, but she seems simply determined to find and bring out the good in all. However she isn't completely oblivious. If ill intentions have been made vehemently clear, she will steer well out of the way. Aim it at a friend, though, and expect different results.

Treat Naname with respect and she will reciprocate intense love and loyalty. Even her servants are treated as equals, she just as willing to lay down her life for them as they for her. She is not above diving to dangerous depths to rescue her drowning nursemaid or breaking into the Archer's Den to find her brother and free the enslaved remains of her court. Surely this sort of loyalty takes a lifetime to forge, but it displays a selflessness uncommon in royalty. If the time is taken to really bond with her, she will be willing to set aside her comfort for that of others.

All in all, she is a bubbly young lady with her heart on her sleeve. Kind to strangers, loyal to friends, and forgiving to enemies. It takes serious effort to get on her bad side. If it's exploration you're after, Naname is the girl to go to. If you have something to show her, she will follow like a puppy--vice versa and she will pull you along straining at the leash. Exciteable, bouncy, chatty, and caring; quick to the aid of her friends, slow to anger.
Quite possibly one of the nicest people on the planet.

Abilities Information
Fighter or Sacrifice?: Fighter. Naname is more of a doer than a thinker. She would rather get going instead of planning exactly where to go. Not that she throws herself entirely thoughtlessly into any situation, she simply operates better on spontenaity. Also, she is very responsive when she is told to do something. Stay here! Go there! Follow me! This is probably due to her cloistered upbringing, but she is quick to act on the suggestions of others, especially if they seem to be in her best interests at the surface. She also loves to speak!
Canon abilities: She is very nimble and strong from practicing sparring with her brother, as well as an adept climber and an excellent flute player. She could probably hang from her hands or feet til the cows came home for what it's worth.
Name:
Zero Candidate?: No.

--this do? What a thin little box. I cannot imagine what one would store in here. Why is one side so soft?

[sounds of tapping at the screen of the phone, followed by scritching at the casing.]

A seam! Is it hinged? Perhaps it slides--ooh are you stubborn! Maybe it... it must slide somehow! There is no clasp. Surely it--

[click!]

--aha! ... And another box! I wonder if there is an even smaller box inside this one. And then smaller. Until I am left with a grain of sand. What a strange creation. Tight, this one. Fit like a puzzle piece... Nowhere to slide. Oh! Ju--

[the call abruptly ends as the battery pops free.]

Third Person:
Don't climb the fences, they'd said. Do not climb the fences. Do not climb the fences around the perimeter of the town. Especially do not climb the fences beyond the lake.
They were very adamant about not climbing fences.
They had been nonspecific in the way of climbing other things.
Naname was well into fifteen feet of the largest tree she had seen so far, shimmying eight of the trunk alone just to reach the lowest hanging limb. No small task, one might say. Where have you been? she would reply. Maybe she could spot an even taller tree from the top. Leap to it and cling like a praying mantis. For now, she concentrated on putting branches between herself and the ground like it was her duty, climbing until they no longer held her weight. At which point she settled on the last stable bow, hooking a precautionary leg round it. A tail, too, for what little good it would do.
It was an awfully tall tree, to be sure.
Through the thin branches, the nearest boundaries of the town were visible. As were the forbidden lands beyond. To be perfectly honest, they did not differ much from the land inside. But the curiosity was like a hook behind her breastbone, pitifully tugging like a fish on a line. Dangerous, they'd called it. Dangerous and off limits. And that alone was enough to sate her. But they couldn't stop her from looking, could they? Maybe someone would come along. Maybe she could say hello.
But no one came. No loss! She was still closer to the sky than anyone else in town. The wind was strong here, ruffling her skirts and sending a thrill up her spine as the tree swayed. But she was perfectly safe--her footing flawless. She steadied her back against the trunk where she sat, dislodged the ornate flute tucked into her belt, and attempted to call the birds.
